About the Institute


The East-West Medical Research Institute (EWR) is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Institute is affiliated with the Diabetes and Hormone Center of
the Pacific (DHCP)
, founded in 1990 to provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date diagnosis and treatment available for people with diabetes and other hormonal (endocrine) problems.

In addition, DHCP has actively conducted Phase II through Phase IV clinical research studies in the field of endocrinology. With its expansion to include clinical research in other medical specialty areas, the research component of DHCP is now known as East-West Medical Research Institute.

EWR's offices are in the Queen's Physician Office Building (POB) II, adjacent to the state's largest acute care facility, The Queen's Medical Center, which is noted for treatment of heart disease, cancer and neurological problems. More than 150 physicians, many of whom are leading specialists in their field, have offices in this building and the neighboring POB I.

EWR is directed by David Fitz-Patrick, M.D. Dr. Fitz-Patrick is Board Certified in both internal medicine and diabetes/endocrinology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology.
